ICBC Auto Glass Replacement & Repair Policy
ICBC offers coverage for both auto glass repairs and replacements. We can help assess the damage and determine the best solution for your needs.
While repairs are usually the most cost-effective option, a full windshield replacement is required in the following cases:
- The crack or chip is too large to be safely repaired.
- The damage is in the driver’s direct line of sight, affecting visibility.
- The windshield has multiple cracks, weakening its structural integrity.
- The damage extends to the edges of the windshield, increasing the risk of shattering.

ICBC Auto Glass Replacement Procedure
When replacing a windshield or other auto glass through an ICBC claim, ICBC generally covers the cost based on an approved aftermarket glass option. OEM glass from the vehicle manufacturer or dealership may cost more than the amount approved by ICBC.At AutoMind, we will always do our best to help customers who prefer OEM glass. Whenever possible, we will contact the dealership and ask whether they can match the ICBC-approved price.
If the dealership is unable to match the price and you would still like to proceed with OEM glass, you may do so by paying the difference between ICBC’s approved amount and the cost of the OEM glass.
How Long Does the Replacement Take? A typical windshield replacement takes approximately 4 hours. This includes the glass installation as well as any required camera or Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) calibration.
Some vehicles may require additional time depending on the type of glass, calibration requirements, or vehicle specifications.
Courtesy or Rental Vehicle A courtesy or rental vehicle is not automatically included with an ICBC glass claim.
Rental coverage depends on the customer’s individual insurance policy. If your policy includes the appropriate rental vehicle or loss-of-use coverage, you may be eligible for a rental while the glass replacement is being completed.
